In 2016, the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA) is celebrating 20 years of overseeing the implementation and further development of South Africa`s National Qualifications Framework (NQF).
SAQA invites all leaders and stakeholders in education and training to a workshop to discuss how the NQF has impacted on understandings of, and developments in, the education and training system.
The NQF Act of 2008 (Section 13[k(i)-(ii)]) requires SAQA to: “Conduct or commission investigations on issues of importance to the development and implementation of the NQF, including periodic studies of the impact of the NQF on South African education, training and employment” and “publish findings of the investigations”. It is important to assess the imprint of the NQF on the system for education, training, development and work in the country.
The third NQF Impact Study was concluded in 2014 and its findings show that in some instances the trends are in the desired directions, and need to be monitored to ensure that they continue as desired. In other instances, it is clear that interventions are needed.
The workshop will provide leaders and stakeholders in education and training with an opportunity to engage with national insights already gained, and to comment on the proposed way forward in the next round of NQF Impact Study work. The processes followed, the findings reported, and the implications of the findings, in the 2014 NQF Impact Study will be explained. The processes and indicators proposed for the 2017 NQF Impact Study will also be discussed.
All education and training policy makers and implementers, including those in NQF partner organisations; SETAs; other education and training co-ordinating entities; education and training institutions; research organisations in the education and training field, government departments, professional bodies, organised business, organised labour, and other stakeholders are invited to the workshop.
