Mr Gordon Choaro Louw
Mr Gordon Choaro Louw is the SACCAWU Local Organiser, a member of the Board of the Quality Council for Trades and Occupations (QCTO) and also serves on its Occupational Qualifications Committee (OQC). He currently also serves on the Advocacy and Communication Committee of the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA). He previously completed an apprenticeship in the electrical trade, and thereafter worked at Impala Platinum Mines as an underground electrician.
Before joining SACCAWU, he worked for the National Union of Mineworkers (NUM), where he held the position of National Education and Training Coordinator. It was in this position that he was involved in an RPL research project for workers which was later adopted by COSATU as the federation’s RPL Policy, which was published with support of the then-GTZ. He was later appointed to the position within NUM.
Mr Louw served on the Eskom and Allied Industries Training Board (EAITB), the Mining Industries Engineering Trades Training Board (MIETTB), the National Training Board (NTB) and was Chairperson of the Board of the Energy SETA (ESETA). He also served on the Board of the Mining Qualifications Authority (MQA) and across a number of its committees.
