Conference on adult education and training

Stakeholders in the education sector met on the 9th July at the Independent Education Board (IEB) conference on Adult Basic Education and Training (ABET). The theme for the conference was "who's on the bus and where is it going?" Discussions were around the following topics: the role of ABET in skills development; new developments in adult education and training; new adult qualifications; debates about the importance of literacy and numeracy for the nation; and the need to formalise ABET study for the development of the economy. The question was asked who is responsible for ABET; and the strengths and weaknesses of current qualifications were explored. SAQA Executive Officer, Samuel Isaacs, gave a presentation on adult qualifications. Click here (PDF) for the presentation.

Denmark has had a national QF since 2003, and this framework has been widely implemented and used by institutions of higher education in the country. However, in order to be in line with the overarching European framework, a revision of the country’s existing framework was necessary – a process that started in 2006...more

Transitional and teach-out periods of qualifications

Transitional and teach-out periods of qualifications were approved by the Authority in 2007. Therefore in the event of a qualification being replaced by a new qualification or should there be significant changes made to a qualification requiring a new ID number, the ETQA, and therefore the accredited providers, will be given a transitional period of one year to develop and submit new learning programmes for approval.
