Christo spent 8 years in industry in the engineering and design environment. He is a qualified mechanical engineer. He joined education in 1983 at a FET institution and completed his educational qualifications.

He was principal of three different FET colleges for 10 years up to 1999. He joined SAQA in 2002 in the quality assurance division. Currently he is the Director Quality Assurance and Development at SAQA.

He formed part of the first ever Quality Audits of ETQAs conducted in 2003/04. He is married to Andrea and has two children.
